Last night, Salon 94 went from a New York art gallery to a fashion week dining hall (that felt more like a house party) thanks to French designer Haider Ackermann’s first beauty collaboration with Augustinus Bader. Perhaps everyone already anticipated Ackermann’s longtime supporter Timothée Chalamet would be at his side, but when the actor arrived at cocktail hour with Kylie Jenner, the room was abuzz, wondering if this was the pair’s first public outing. Still, this wasn’t a night of stares and whispers. In fact, it was a moment to relax, toast a glass, and carry on as if no one was watching.
“It’s a family affair, just enjoying each other’s company,” said Ackermann, who sat sandwiched between Oscar Isaac and Chalamet, directly across from Sofia Coppola, and never far from a laughing friend. Standing to thank Augustinus Bader co-founder Charles Rosier for their first-ever collaboration on The Limited Editions, a futuristic chrome update of the cult beauty brand’s The Rich Cream and The Cream hits, he couldn’t help but bring it all back to being with the people that actually inspire him. “We talk about beauty a lot, but all I want to say tonight is that the most beautiful thing in the world is us being together,” he said, looking around the table at those that made his “heart beat faster.”
The wine flowed, Chef Yann Nury’s squash blossoms disappeared, and as it neared midnight, even the starriest guests wanted to be the last to leave. “This time of year is like a marathon for me, and I like to conserve my energy,” said Paloma Elsesser. “However, sometimes there’s a moment a glimmer that exalts the purpose of why we do all of this, which is ultimately to show our humanity.”
