Stephen was the photographer behind Anna Nicole Smith‘s first Playboy cover, which was for the debutant issue.
He described the late star as being “as beautiful as any of the sex symbols of the 50s and 60s – Jane Mansfield, Brigitte Bardot, Marilyn Monroe.”
“She was about as far from a debutant as you could imagine – from West Texas, worked in a fried chicken place, and a stripper in Houston at night. But I made her look like one,” Stephen said about making the shoot fit the bill. “She had a pretty tragic childhood and she said that the Playboy shoot was the best experience she’d ever had and the safest she’d ever felt.”
