Debra Carey, 69 years of age, passed away peacefully on May 12th, 2023. She was surrounded by her family and given the highest quality of care by her nurses and assisted living staff.
She was born in Laramie, Wyoming in 1954 and later moved to Roy, Utah in 1982 with her son Eli.
Debra was a unique and inspirational soul to everyone she met.
Growing up during the Beatlemania time, she adored everything to do with the Beatles.
Her passion in life was art and creativity. There are not enough words in the English language to describe her talents and accomplishments. From the influences of Baroque, Celtic, Spiritual, Viking, Native American, Folk, Hippy, Romance, Fantasy, Vintage, Historical and so many more.
She made pencil and ink drawings, beading, wire wrapping, chainmail, pyrography, boxes, tile art, watercolor paintings, digital art, website design, handmade paper and books, upholstery, clothing, crochet, and anything thing else she put her mind to. Debra was truly a genius with her creativity.
She had a love of antiques. If you went into her home, you were in awe of the beautiful antique furniture pieces, books, and artwork displayed.
Aside from art, her hobbies included a lifetime of reading books, watching movies, British dramas and comedies, Star Trek, and learning new things.
She worked for Albion Minerals for many years, where she worked her way up to being the assistant to the CEO.
Once retired, she was finally free to pursue her life-long dream of being a full-time artist and started working at the Local Artisan Collective in Ogden. She met some of her favorite people there and treasured the time she was finally able to share her art with the world.
If you were to ask her, the most valuable and important part of Debra’s life was her son, Eli, and her grandchildren. Debra and Eli had a beautiful friendship. She adored him before anything else. They talked about anything and everything every single day. Eli took care of Debra until the very end. Their bond was magical and admirable.
Debra had a very close relationship with her mother, Mary, and sister, Christine. Even though they lived miles apart, their connection and communication stayed constant. She valued and treasured the time they spent together throughout her lifetime.
She is survived by her mother: Mary Mesa; son, Eli Carey; grandchildren: Cedric Graves, Isaac Graves, Aeson Carey, Rylan Carey; sister: Christine Stimson; Nephew: Luke Stimson; Uncle: Jim Gallegos.
Preceded in death by her soulmate, Jerry Ballinger.
